E-MAIL

My email address is mark at markworthen dot com

If you send me an email, please note that t is your responsibility to ensure that you receive my email reply. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) blocks emails at the server level, which means you don't even know that an email sent to you has been blocked, there is nothing I can do about it--unless you include a second email address and/or other contact information.

People who use AOL, Yahoo, and Hotmail email addresses often do not receive emails they want. If you use one of these free email services, be advised that you might not receive my email response. Your best bet is to "whitelist" my email address. The easiest way to do this is to add me to your email program's Contact folder. I will reply to your request from this email address: mark at markworthen dot com--obviously you need to "translate" that to legitimate email address format. Thus, just fill in the following fields into your email Contacts folder as specified--First Name: Mark Last Name: Worthen E-mail Address: mark at markworthen dot com.

I apologize for the long explanation but this is a HUGE problem these days. Unless you own your own web site and you use that site for your email address, chances are good that you never receive email you actually want.

If you want to use a free service, Gmail (Google E-mail) is your best bet because they don't block email at the server level (Yahoo used to be good also but they recently started blocking or delaying emails). However, with Gmail as with every email program you must check your Spam folder (also called a Bulk or Junk folder by other email providers) to see if an email you want ended up being falsely identified as spam.

How To Whitelist

If you currently use an anti-spam program or service, we ask that you take just a minute or two to add us to your "safe" or permitted email sender list. This usually involves simply adding our sending address ( mark at markworthen dot com ) to your Contacts, whitelist, safelist, or list of privileged senders. This is commonly known as "whitelisting" a publication.

Please note that if you do not "whitelist" our email address you might not receive the information you request.

Also, please be aware that some ISP's (Internet Service Providers--such as Comcast, United Online (which purchased NetZero and Juno) SBC Communications, RoadRunner, Verizon, BellSouth, etc.) have spam filters on their servers. This means that they filter out emails before they are delivered to your computer. Check your ISP's web site to determine if they filter emails at the server level. If they do, you can often change the default setting and instruct their computer to let all emails through to your Inbox or you can regularly check to see which emails they have blocked at the server level. You usually do this by logging onto a web mail account provided by your ISP and opening a spam folder to examine which emails your ISP prevented from reaching your computer. But check with your ISP for their specific instructions.

For most email programs, you can simply add mark at markworthen dot com to your Address Book or Contact list.

If that doesn't work or if you'd like to see specific instructions for your email provider or spam filter, please read them below. The list is in alphabetical order.

The following four email programs are used by a majority of people. Click on the name of the email provider to jump to the whitelist instructions for it: AOL, Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo!_Mail.
